Chateau d’Lavande lives up to its name; its gardens are rich and heavily laden with all sorts of flowers, but especially lavender. In the summer, the Count and Countess open the gardens to visitors from the surrounding villages, and one can spend hours among the boughs, enjoying the vibrant bursts of color and the wandering, mazelike paths. The smell is so heavy it’s intoxicating, and it lingers on the skin long after one leaves to go home and dream of dahlias as big as your head.
